Review: Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken

rating- 4.5 stars

THIS WAS AMAZINGGGGGG. Alexandra Bracken's writing continued to amaze me. Here's the description from Goodreads:

Ruby never asked for the abilities that almost cost her her life. Now she must call upon them on a daily basis, leading dangerous missions to bring down a corrupt government and breaking into the minds of her enemies. Other kids in the Children’s League call Ruby “Leader”, but she knows what she really is: a monster.

When Ruby is entrusted with an explosive secret, she must embark on her most dangerous mission yet: leaving the Children’s League behind. Crucial information about the disease that killed most of America’s children—and turned Ruby and the others who lived into feared and hated outcasts—has survived every attempt to destroy it. But the truth is only saved in one place: a flashdrive in the hands of Liam Stewart, the boy Ruby once believed was her future—and who now wouldn’t recognize her.

As Ruby sets out across a desperate, lawless country to find Liam—and answers about the catastrophe that has ripped both her life and America apart—she is torn between old friends and the promise she made to serve the League. Ruby will do anything to protect the people she loves. But what if winning the war means losing herself?

So the book starts with Ruby on an Op. Immediately I LOVE Jude, like Chubs he's so loyal and suCH A GOOD PERSON. He definitely did NOT deserve that ending. Vida at first I'm not sure I like, but as the story goes on we see how amazing of a friend she becomes to Ruby. And I can tell she loves Jude like a little brother.

I think we all died a bit when they found Cole, I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE LIAM. I love Cole, I really do think that all he wants is equality. WHEN WE FOUND OUT HE'S A RED MY MIND EXPLODED. I always thought Reds were crazy (Mason, so sad 😭) or dead. BUT COLE IS A RED COLE IS A RED AND I LOVE HIM. I really wish he would tell Liam about it, I think it would make their relationship a lot stronger. Really hope to see more not crazy Reds in the next book. A group of Reds fighting for good would be epic.

Ahh Chubs. I cried when they found him. "East River" obviously it's not the actual East River and the "Slip Kid" isn't Clancy. I HATED KNOX. How he treats girls is sickening. Sure, Clancy is fucked up, but he doesn't underestimate girls at all. When Ruby controlled him, all I could think was YES. AND LIAM. FINALLY. HE'S BACK.

When Rob appeared again, I felt so much anger. What Ruby did was the right thing. He deserved everything she did to him. I loved how Vida comforted her about it. That was when I really fell in love with Vida.

And again, another painful ending. JUDE CANNOT BE DEAD. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT. And the president was shot. I would love to know who did it. Probably won't happen, but I really want to meet him in the last book. A CURE?¿ That was a shocker too.

Sadly, Zu wasn't in this book. But of course she has to be in the last one. I AM SO EXCITED to see how this series will end..CLANCY PLEASE TURN OUT GOOD. JUDE PLEASE DON'T BE DEAD. Can't wait to read "In The Afterlight" but at the same time I don't want this series to end.
